Isabelle van Zeijl's London Exhibition Merges Old Masters With Consumer Culture

Dutch artist and photographer, Isabelle van Zeijl, who creates striking photographic self-portraits merging references from the Old Masters with modern-day consumer imagery, has her largest solo exhibition to date from Monday, 24th June, at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, Pall Mall, London.

Confronting the significance of aesthetics throughout history and society, the artist produces the scenes entirely independently, from the costume design and makeup, to the lighting and editing. Isabelle has also collaborated with celebrated designers, including Iris Van Herpen and Claes Iversen.

At first glance, one might mistake van Zeijl's portraits for subversive portrayals of noblewomen painted by Dutch Golden Age Masters. Through the exploration and manipulation of the visual vocabulary of the past and the implementation of modern photographic technology, her work possesses a timeless beauty, transcending the boundaries of epoch and media.

She was nominated for the Prix De La Photographie Paris, and The Fine Art Photography Awards. She was also one of the recipeints of the inaugural Young Masters Emerging Women Art Prize, London.
